I got this recipe for Nutella Babka from a now, out-of-business meal kit delivery brand. They referred to it as a chocolate babka, but the recipe is the same. It is just too good not to share.

Traditional babka is actually a cake that looks like bread with swirly layers of chocolate or cinnamon. It’s made with a sweet, yeast dough, however this recipe uses pizza dough! Don’t worry, there is still plenty of sweetness in this recipe.

Classic babka is also typically made in a loaf pan, but this recipe is made in a ring shape, which is sometimes seen with traditional recipes, as well. It makes for a beautiful presentation when set out for dessert.

Why This Recipe Works

Babka is a fun recipe to make. This one is so easy because it only uses 4 ingredients. It’s a great recipe to have the kids help with too.

If you are a fan of Nutella, you will love the rich chocolate and hazelnut flavors in this recipe.

You can serve this babka for dessert for any occasion, but it is especially beautiful during holidays like Christmas.

There really isn’t any prep work for this recipe, unless you plan to make your own pizza dough.

Because this dough will need time to chill (30 minutes minimum), hold off on preheating the oven until later.

Roll the pizza dough out onto a lightly floured work surface into a 10-inch by 12 inch rectangle. I like to work on rimless cookie sheet so I can transfer the dough to the refrigerator without having to pick it up.

Chef’s Tip: if you are making your own pizza dough, use a kitchen scale to weigh out 12 ounces.

Spread the entire jar of Nutella onto the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border all the way around.

Sprinkle the chocolate chips all over the Nutella.

Once the dough is chilled, remove it from the refrigerator. Now is a good time to preheat your oven to 350°F.

Cut the dough in half lengthwise.

Line the two pieces of dough next to each other and, starting at one end, criss-cross them until you get to the opposite end. Trim the last 1/2-inch off of each end.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

Add the sugar and 1/4 cup of water to a small pot and bring to a boil. Once the sugar is fully dissolved, remove it from the heat. It will thicken as it cools.

Brush the glaze over the entire babka and allow to set.
