How to use our Tallow & Magnesium Deodorants

Apply very lightly (a pea-size amount) on clean armpits. It is best to allow absorption into skin for 5 or more minutes before dressing, making sure that the deodorant is evenly spread.

Do not over-apply as the excess deodorant will rub off onto clothing, causing white marks on dark clothing. These marks will come out easily during laundry wash.

SIDE EFFECTS: Irritation may occur due to razor bumps or burns in the armpits. To help prevent this, you can eliminate razor bumps and burns with our shampoo and shaving soaps.

Deodorant Detox

Using a natural deodorant for the first time may cause a “detoxing period”. It is your body’s way of releasing trapped toxins from using a lifetime of antiperspirants, which prevent natural sweat detoxification processes from your lymph nodes located in your armpits. You may notice that your sweat contains a dark-colored substance, these are the toxins finally escaping your body. You can wear dark-colored or multi-layered clothing during this stage, lasting up to several weeks. Irritation may also accompany the detoxing process, but should pass along with the dark perspiration. If irritation persists or becomes serious, please discontinue use and try again when your skin is healed.

Try not to use any deodorants during the healing process or the detox period may start over again. Once your body adjusts after one or two breaks for healing, users report of never having another detox episode again if they avoid anti-perspirants.

Tin Containers:

  • We highly recommend the waterproof tin containers as they allow a more controlled deodorant application and will decrease excess use, although the plastic tubes are more convenient to use.
  • Push down and rub the deodorant in circular motions to warm and loosen it up into an easy-to-smear paste.
  • If tin top is too tight, put in refrigerator up to 5 minutes before attempting to open again. It also may help to gently tap around the rim on a table top before attempting to open again! These methods will help to loosen the metal screw top.

Plastic Tube Containers:

  • If you are having difficulties twisting up your tube for the first time, we recommend putting it somewhere warm for the sides to soften up (warming between hands or out in the sun for a few minutes). After the sides have warmed up and softened the contents a bit, try twisting it up again. Once the contents have been loosened from the sides, there should not be another issue twisting up the contents.
  • If your plastic tube has been twisted up too much, resulting in excess deodorant exposure, you can reverse twise the contents back down into the tube.

Storage & Shipping

The tube and tin should be stored in a dry area and out of direct heat or sunlight. Natural deodorants can slightly melt in prolonged exposure to hot temperatures over 95°F. If your deodorant does melt, place upright in fridge for 30 minutes before attempting to open and use.

Expiration

We recommend using your deodorant within a year of purchase for best results, as scent and contents fade over time. Once you first use your deodorant, it is best to finish using it within 6 months as contaminants from the first use will degrade the deodorant contents faster. If your deodorant is more than a few years old, the fats inside could start to go rancid and it could smell “off” and develop spots – at this point, please discard the deodorant.

Beading & Other Inconsistencies

Farm-freshsuet tallowin it’s raw (unprocessed and natural) state can be compared to farm-fresh raw honey. If you have ever had raw honey crystallize after sitting in your cabinet, the beekeeper probably told you it is doing exactly what that product does naturally, and it can be gently re-heated to go back to a more fluid, consistent texture state. Raw, unprocessed honey still has molecular memory – the compounds tend to draw back into their natural state over time, remembering their original composition. This is the same story with 100% grass-fed whipped farm-freshsuet tallow– except that it beads instead of crystalizes. We have not been able to determine exactly the reasons for beading, whether due to abrupt temperature fluctuations, atmospheric pressures, humidity levels, or additional ingredients: beading is a total mystery we are still trying to pin the precise cause of (and we will probably never be able to). Sometallowjars will bead, while others from the same batch stored in the same location do not! The beekeeper will be able to relate: as some honey jars crystallize, while other jars from the same batch do not. We learned this from having our own honeybees for a few years – it is a natural happening with high-quality products, although inconvenient.
You may also notice that raw natural honey (like farm-freshtallow) is different in texture, taste, and color at different seasons – even from the same farmer and location. This is because of the seasonal availability of food for the bees and other environmental factors. Again, a very similar thing happens with grass-fed pasture-raisedtallow:the texture, scent, and color vary at different seasons – even from the same farmers and locations. These are undetermined factors we have no control over due to the seasonal changes of environments and adapting natural genetics.
Despite these inconsistencies, the end performance and value of the product is still the same! With beading, it takes a few more seconds to massage the product on the skin to melt the beadings, that’s the only inconvenience. The other factors of “imperfections” are always a possibility with all-natural ingredients: affecting their scent, texture, color, and consistency. Since the ingredient is still fitting to the description of “100% grass-fedsuet tallow” or “raw natural honey” as per our example – the product still works perfectly naturally and is still functioning exactly as stated and as nature intended. We could add more processed ingredients or chemical emulsifiers to remedy this, but we see this extra step as only compromising the benefits of our farm-fresh, natural, animal-based products to maybe only gain a slightly more consistent texture – it’s not even a guarantee! Just like our natural animal fat soaps will never lather like palm-based detergents, our hand-renderedtallow-based products can’t compare to the artificial consistency of highly processed and industrialized ingredients used in other body products.
Therefore, we feel thatit is best to consider these inconsistencies as proof of the integrity of our ingredients, and take pleasure in knowing we are rubbing in a more wholesome skin food a little longer than if the texture, color, or scent was exactly “as-expected” like synthetic or highly processed creams are.In short, we do the best we can with what nature gifts us – we hope that you are able to enjoy a truly superior and natural product for your body, despite any organic inconsistencies!
